Solid State Drive is the full form of SSD. These drives do run in the solid-state way, so they are called Solid State Drive. These drives don’t have any moving objects but remain constant in solid-state.
Solid State Drive works as a storage device, just like conventional hard disk drives. The primary difference between SSD and HDD (traditional hard disk drive) is the technology which makes these two different from each other.
Conventional hard drives have a moving actuator arm with spinning disks coated with magnetic material. These moving parts make these HDDs easily vulnerable to shocks and damage.

SSDs are available in different versions based on different interface and form factors. Each version is different from others in size, storage, and speed.
The first version of Solid State drives is SATA SSDs; after that, a mini form of these SATA drives comes into existence and calls mini-SATA (mSATA) Solid State drives.
M.2 NVMe PCIe Solid State drives are the next version of Solid State drives. This form of Solid State drives are much faster than SATA based drives, but they are very low on capacity.
These m.2 drives have a capacity of up to 2TB of storage only, but these drives consume very less space and are at least three times faster than SATA SSD drives.
U.2 drives are the next version of SSDs after m.2 Solid State drives. These U.2 drives have an outer shell, and these drives have higher storage capacity.
